Discipleship

A Description of the Discipleship Resources

The Bible study resources posted on this website are designed to be used for personal study, one-to-one discipleship or small group discussions. They are written in a format that raises questions or issues along with a list of passages from which you can draw your conclusions. Commentary on the passages has been kept to a minimum in order for the reader to enjoy discovering what is evident in the Scriptures.

The descriptions of the Resources are divided into three categories:

Who the study is designed for.

What the content is about.

Why the content is important.

Set Your Foundation

Who:

New or younger believers. Older believers who want to review the foundations of their faith. Those who are discipling younger believers.

What:

The content of this study is considered the foundation for growing in a relationship with God. There is so much more to learn about the Christian life than is included in these eight truths, but these are indispensible. Most discipleship ministries use materials with similar content.

Why:

The foundational truths are the basis of a lifetime of spiritual growth.

Set Your Foundation Leader’s Guide

Who:

The Leader’s Guide is for those who use Set Your Foundation for discipleship or small group discussions.

What:

The Leader’s Guide is not an “answer sheet” for Set Your Foundation. Rather, it provides discipleship insights, additional questions and helpful information for processing these Biblical truths.

Why:

The Leader’s Guide increases a discipler’s confidence in using Set Your Foundation to disciple others.

Framework

Who:

Christ-followers who have a grasp of the foundations of the faith.

What:

The content of this study describes grace, faith and obedience as the framework (supporting structure) of our relationship with Jesus. We live under His grace, walk by faith and respond in obedience. These are the means by which we walk with God.

Why:

Too often the Christian life is measured by our knowledge of the Bible. But, the Scriptures say it is our response (faith, grace, obedience) to His truth that pleases Him, not our knowledge of it. This study examines the essence of faith and obedience in the context of His grace.

 2 Timothy

Who:

Believers who want to expand their ability to handle God’s Word and develop discipleship convictions.

What:

This study series was designed with two objectives: 1) to demonstrate several elements of Bible study methods in a New Testament book, and 2) to identify discipleship principles.

Why:

Proper Bible study methods enable a person to study, absorb and teach the Scriptures more accurately and effectively. 2 Timothy is a source of indispensable instruction for ministry.

Unlocking the Scriptures

Who:

Any Christ-follower who wants to learn to use time-tested Bible study methods.

What:

This study is best described as a workbook utilizing Bible study methods that are taught in most seminaries and Bible schools. The format includes explanations, examples and worksheets for your practice.

Why:

While the Scriptures are simple and clear, the depth is in the details. Accurate interpretation and application are dependent on thorough observation that considers context, culture and language.

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NASB)

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NASB)

Pursuers

Who:

Men.

What:

The Scriptures call men to pursue several things, including their Maker, maturity, masculinity, mate and mission. The Pursuers study examines Scriptures that move men to take hold of the things He created them for.

Why:

Men are wired to intentionally pursue the things of God. The Biblical descriptions of masculinity have been undermined in a culture that elevates passivity in men.

INFLUENCERS, In His Service

(posted under Influence/Resources tab)

Who:

Believers who seek to understand how God has created and equipped them for ministry involvement.

What:

INFLUENCERS is a study of the Scriptures that describe God’s work that began in our mother’s womb and continued through His gifting, experiences and relationships—to equip us for His service. The study from chapter to chapter enables the reader to reflect on God’s hand in his life, providing a sense of where God could use him to be an influence for Christ in the world.

Why:

We are both the object and the agent of God’s purposes. We are the object in that He has pursued us and called us into a relationship with Him. As agents of His purposes, we are His servants in the world to accomplish His work in the lives of others.
